About Me
I was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I graduated 2nd in my High School class thanks to Physical Chemistry. My undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University is a B.S. in Social Sciences with a minor in Psychology. I have a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary. I have also studied in the Doctor of Ministry program at McCormick in the area of Preaching and Communication. I have completed everything but the Dissertation. I also have an honorary degree - A Doctor of Divinity Degree.
I was ordained in 1981 and have served churches in Bluffton, Ohio; Yuma, Colorado; South Bend, Indiana; Newberry, Michigan; Menominee, Michigan and Munster, Indiana. I also taught Philosophy at Indiana University Northwest for more than 4 years.
My interests include music - both listening to and playing. I "play at" guitar and bass and when my lips were in shape, the trumpet. I live in a very musical family! I like to listen to jazz, read, go to movies and collect sports cards. My current collection numbers about 250,000 cards. I have written two books: A FINNISH(ING) TOUCH and PERSISTENCE: AN AMERICAN BIOGRAPHY. For a number of years I was a weekly columnist for the Newberry News.
My family consists of my wife, Jeanie, to whom I have been married 35 years, two adult sons, Dylan, 28, and Ian, 24. The "baby" of the family is Jordan (Jordie) who is a Junior in High School. We also have two dogs - Lola a Miniature Schnauzer and Puma - an American Eskimo.
